What Causes Abdominal Pain And Diarrhea?

For the second time in approx. 2 wks., I ve had an intense (day-long) bout of diarrhea, accompanied by a bloated lower abdomen that is quite painful. My best guess from looking at Web MD and other bona fide medical sites is that this is probably IBS, but what can I do to ascertain this? I am a little more worried than usual, because my next door neighbor developed a perforated colon and subsequent septicemia because he assumed he just had bad indigestion and did not seek timely medical attention.

Hi thanks for asking question.

In IBD there is alternate diarrhea and constipation can occur with abdominal pain.It is related to stress also.It is usually diagnosed by clinical history and excluding other causes.

You can rule out gastroenteritis like infective etiology by stool examination and USG abdomen.In bacterial infection pus cell present while in parasite infection egg or trophozoites seen of parasite.They can be treated with specific drug for it.

If still your problem increasing then endoscopy might needed to rule out other etiology like ulcer in intestine or inflammatory bowel disease changes etc.

As far as perforation of your neibour concerned then he might neglected pain if present since long duration and had not investigated case so pergorayin might occur secondarily.

Take more water and fruits.
Dovregular exercise.
Cooked oatmeal useful herbal remedy.

If you have confirmed irritable bowel syndrome then lubiprostone like specific drug can be taken.
