What Causes Abnormal And Long Periods?

I had my period last April 13, which last maybe 12-14 days, normal flow blood, but last longer than my normal month. Adding 4-5 days I have this reddish discharge. Then stop for 4-5 days. Then bleed again for almost 6 days now. I am 50yrs old. Please help me and advice what to do. By the way, I went to my OB, and suggested a Uterus removal.

You may be in the perimenopausal period. But excessive bleeding needs to be evaluated with an ultrasound scan.
