What Causes Accumulation Of Saliva On The Back Of The Tongue?

I have thick saliva in the back of my tongue. I have been using a CPAP device for several years. Early when the CPAP mask I could sleep for 8 hours (expect of breaks for toilet runs). The hours of use have gotten gradually to only able to 4 hours, 3 hours, 2 hours, 1 hours, half-hour to now to essentially nothing. What is going wrong? I as tired all day long. Is there a way that I can get to work again? John

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, Welcome to Ask a doctor services. I have read your query.

If you are not getting proper sleep after CPAP mask, you should either get it adjusted to your comfort levels or its time to get a new one.

Common side effect of CPAP mask is dryness of mouth, so you may feel thickened saliva at the back of the tongue.

Stay well hydrated, take ORS, soup, juice & beverages to keep saliva thin. You can take food rich in vitamin E, or vitamin E supplements (Evion - 400) once daily for one week to feel better.

Hope I have answered your query. Take care.
