What Causes Acid Reflux And Diarrhea After Taking Sodium Bicarbonate And Potassium Citrate?

sure i have kidney stones, on average 6-10 a year, unfortunately i am treated at the VA which change their doctors ever 2 years, normally urologist, but recently kidney doctors, i question why they have me on two medicines which do about the same thing, oh the stones are calcium oxalate. omeprazole 2 x 20 mg a day for acid reflux . and Sodium Bicarbonate 650 mg x 2 a day for the kidney stones, i developed acid reflux after they treated me over the years. potassium Citrate always helped me in the past these new medicine have serious side effects, stomach cramps vomiting and diarrhea. any advice. going to a patient advocate this am to complain. oh and my favorite is they refuse to give pain meds and no muscle relaxers, since Oklahoma got nailed for abusing the drugs.

Hi,

I generally don’t think that it’s a good idea to treat kidney stones conservatively. It’s absolutely no problem to get rid of them without a surgery; modern medicine has all the tools that a doctor needs to clear your kidneys from the stones quickly and without pain.

For your stomach I recommend Gaviscon. Regarding the pain medication you will have to talk to a local healthcare provider because here on this platform are doctors from around the world who are not eligible to prescribe anything in the United States, especially no painkillers.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Alexander Davis, General & Family Physician
