What Causes Aggressive And Delusional Behaviour?

Hello, My father-in-law has dementia and lives in a memory care residence. He has started to exhibit very bstinant behavior and refused to shower, shave etc. and sometimes demands that help get the hell out of his room. He just got into a push and shove altercation with another resident. We are very concerned, but not sure how to handle the changes. He also experiences delusions often and packs his walker to leave and go to work Any suggestions on what we should do to help him?

Hello,

Thanks for your query on HCM

"As"per your clinical history is concerned please follow like this -

1)Do a clinical examination by your Doctor [psychiatrist] and do CBC and TSH to confirm it.

2)If it is his first time then discuss with your treating Doctor about psychotherapy and SSRI [sertraline]

3)If no improvement from medications then discuss with your treating Doctor about [Electroconvulsive therapy or Transcranial magnetic stimulation.

Do modify lifestyle like this -

1)Take steps to control stress, to increase your resilience and to boost your self-esteem.

2)Reach out to family and friends, especially in times of crisis, to help you weather rough spells.

3)Get treatment at the earliest sign of a problem to help prevent depression from worsening. Consider getting long-term maintenance treatment to help prevent a relapse of symptoms.

Hope that helps
