He became extremely agitated tonight and did not respond to oral dose of ads an. I left in hopes he would calm down and the nurse sat with him. After an hour, she called to tell me he did not settle down and they gave him phenobarbital suppository. How will this affect him? What might I expect when I get there in the morning?

Hello,
It is not unusual for patients at the end of life to have some agitation. This is often due to a build up of toxins in the body that can affect the brain. When you visit him he may be agitated again if the medication has worn off or he may be quite sedated.
