Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
63 year old male. Red rash started on neck area 10 days ago. Itches just a little at times. The red rash is continueing to spread getting larger, tripled in size or more. Rash is not raised, blotchy or blistered, no bulls eye or rings, is warm to the touch. No fever but male had mild flu like symptoms for 5 days or so that comes and goes.. And a few days of headaches, which he normally never gets.
I can understand your concern. The description of the health issue leads to the provisional diagnosis of allergic reaction.
The patient should start antihistamine such as Levocetrizine 5 mg (Levocet) or Loratidine 10 mg (Lorfast) once a day for 5-7 days. The reaction should come under control with this medication.
However, if the rash and itching do not reduce or disappear or increase in size or intensity, a physician or dermatologist should be consulted for the clinical examination, necessary investigations and treatment.
The headache can be related with the flu like symptoms and as the flu will heal, the headache should disappear, too. The patient can take OTC available painkillers like Acetaminophen 500 mg or Ibuprofen 400 mg for the relief in headache.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish the patient feels better soon.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
