What Causes Anemia Despite Taking Iron Supplements?
From my last 2 lab results where blood was taken, my doctor says that I am real anemic and said that I should take an iron supplement twice a day. I was taking an irorn supplement with every meal. I am still anemic and the doctor is concerned. Are there tests to find out what is causing it? I m a white male that is 53. I have never been anemic before. Thanks, Randy

A detailed evaluation is required to find out where the blood is losing.
Consult a physician and plan for a colonoscopy and upper GI endoscopy.
A peripheral smear is also be required.
If the hemoglobin is on the lower side, blood transfusions required.
