What Causes Awkward Gait, memory Issues, severe Headaches And Urinary Incontinence?
my mom has fallen a lot in the past few years. in fact even when she was pregnant w/me over 42 years ago she used to fall. she has been diagnosed w/hydrocephalitis via cat scan. she is waiting on an appointment for a mri. she has been experiencing the awkward gaite, unbalanced, irritable, memory issues, severe headaches, urinary incontinence as well as diareha (sorry know i spelled that wrong), now she is getting serious nosebleeds. i had wanted her to get checked long ago...she's also diabetic and a smoker. they just found a spot on one of her breasts, she's 67. how long can she go w/o getting pressure relieved. im 8 hours away and my mom also has somewhat of a lax way of caring for her health...please help.
Your mother had hydrocephalus in the past. Now she is having symptoms that strongly suggest hydrocephalus. Her current symptoms can't be ignored. She should consult a neurologist or neurosurgeon. If you can't get an appointment with a specialist immediately, you may go to your general practitioner. He/she may prescribe medicines such as Acetazolamide (Diamox) that reduces production of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). This in turn may give some relief in symptoms of hydrocephalus. You may teach her first aid for nosebleeds. She should sit upright and the lean forward a bit. Then pinch nose with thumb and index finger so as to shut your nostrils. Breathe through mouth. Continue pressure of thumb and index finger for 5 to 10 minutes. This will seal bleeding point and stops the flow of blood. Tell her not to pick her nose and not to blow her nose. For spot on her breast, your general practitioner will be able to decide on examination whether a referral is warranted. Hope this answer is helpful.
