I recently visited Ghana, Africa on a school trip and have been taking doxycycline as anti-makarial tablets. Just after a week of returning I ve been have strong pins and needles in my legs and some soreness in NY lower back. I didn t know if this could be related or if I have something else, or if I m just over reacting?

If I were your treating doctor, I would take these symptoms seriously.New onset low back ache with background of pins and needles sensation in the legs can suggest pinching of the nerves in your spine. It will need further evaluation in the form of X-ray and MRI. Further management will depend on findings in these investigations and how your symptoms respond over next few weeks.

Wishing you best of health
