What Causes Back Pain From Middle Of The Shoulders?

My daughter is 13, 165cm 125 lbs for the past three days has been experiencing back pain from the middle of her shoulders down to the lower part. It hurts to touch, she has no fever, there is no discoloration and to her knowledge she has not injured it playing sport. The only medical problem she has ever had was Tonsillitis & Pharyngitis. She is on the first day of her menstrual cycle.

Hi, thanks for posting your concern in the HCM. A radiating pain in the upper back in an adolescent needs further evaluation to rule out any abnormality involving the spine. In the absence of spinal abnormality, a gastrointestinal and chest examination will be needed rule out any esophageal or lung or mediastinal pathology. My recommendation is to visit your local doctor. After taking a detailed history and doing clinical examination and related investigations she will be diagnosed and treated accordingly. For symptomatic relief, paracetamol tablet ( 500 mg SOS, min 6hr interval) may be taken, but that doesn't rule out the necessity of consulting your local doctor. For any further questions, please write back to us. Regards. Dr. Kaushik
