What Causes Back Pain While Sleeping At Night?

Recently I have been suffering from back pain at night, particularly when trying to turn over. I know that I have very mild scoliosis but apart from this and very occasional muscle spasms in my back (one per year if that) I haven't really had any problems before. I think it is worse if I lay on my back or front but am not 100% sure - I normally go off to sleep on my side but often find I have moved onto my back or (less often) my front in my sleep. It's bad enough to wake me up but doesn't trouble me at all during the day. I'm 46, female 54 kg, 5ft 5 and run 4 times per week (currently about 30 miles per week) with a small amount of yoga and pilates in between.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello, Thanks for your query. After going through your query I came to know that you are suffering from chronic backache. I t may be due to vitamin and trace element deficiencies specially vitamin D and vitamine B 12. Back exercises, Cartisafe D once daily, NUROKIND GOLD ONCE DAILY and analgesics (DICLOFENAC 100 MG SLOW RELEASE TABLETS) give relief. Sometimes vitamin D deficiency can aggravate this so serum vitamin D test is advised if it is low than vitamin D supplementation will be required. Avoid long continuous standing. Sit in a straight posture. Eat milk, fruits and green leafy vegetables daily. You need to done MRI TO RULE OUT other causes. You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it. I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care.
