What Causes Back Pain?

My dad has been suffering from debilitating back pain for almost a year now. He has been to specialists, had several courses of PT, been to several chiropractors, had many cortisone injections. What could be causing this pain? any why is it not getting better?

Dear caring son there are hundreds of causes for back pain. So it is needed to rule out most probable etiology. First of all I would like to know age and profession of your patient. Has he suffered from any recent trauma or has he lifted heavy weight? You said he suffers for almost a year which indicates chronic nature of pain.mostly chronic back pain is either due to spinal canal stenosis or disc prolapse or its mechanical. I would like to examine him and do investigation like radiograph of spine and MRI of spine would help me in coming to accurate diagnosis and planning further treatment. So please provide me with detailed history and I would be pleased to help you.
