What Causes Black Lumpy Substance In Stool?

I have a 19 month old son who has had 3 bowl movements today, 2 of which have had a black lumpy jelly look along with some normal bowl with it. He has been tempermatic for 24 hours as well. Could this be a sign of anything? I plan on making a doctors appointment for him tomorrow, but I am wondering if I should taking him to my local Children's Medical Center tonight. Thank you!
