What Causes Black Stool While On Lansoprazole And Bismuth Subsalicylate?
I started a fasting program but had to stop as I developed serious stomach upset, cramps, bloatedness, gas, nausea for 3 weeks now.I have been having dark school for 3 days but no diarrhea. I had been taking these medications- lanzoprazole, bismuth su salicylate, zinc, calcium, magnésium supplément
You had cramps, bloating for 3 weeks and you had been prescribed drugs for ulcer (lansoprazole and bismuth sub salicylate.
Bismuth sub salicylate can combine with sulphur in saliva and colon forming a dark coloured salt called bismuth sulphide. It colours the tongue and stools black.
Stop bismuth under guidance of a doctor and if the colour of the stool continues to be black ,take up motion complete investigation.
Hope this feed back helps!!!
Take care.
