What Causes Bleeding After Taking Contraceptives?

Hi,my period ended on the 28th of September,I had unprotected sex on that same day and took contraceptives afterwards.on the 3rd of October,I started bleeding again, this lasted till the 5th of October.Although it wasn t as heavy as my period.at first I thought it was spotting because I had read about it happening before pregnancy.i went to the hospital, got a scan,my doctor then gave me Primolut N and said it will correct the hormonal imbalance.i took it for 3days.i was expecting my period on the 22nd from my normal calculations.i have taken several pregnancy tests, they are all negative, but I still haven t gotten my period.i am starting to get really worried.any suggestions?

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query. Firstly, you did not need the contraception at all after the unprotected intercourse since it happened during the safe period. Secondly, the contraceptive pill contains high hormone dose and as such disturbs the hormone balance and leads to irregular menstruation. This is what has happened to you in all probability. There is no chance of conception and you need not worry. You can expect withdrawal bleeding 3-7 days after completion of hormone course. If it is delayed by more than ten days, a sonogram of the pelvis is needed. Hope this helps.
