What Causes Bleeding From Rectum After Appendectomy?
Hello. I am a 34 year old female, 120 lbs, 5'3". I had an emergency appendectomy 2 weeks ago today. About an hour ago, I went to the bathroom to urinate and I found a small clot with bright red bleeding on from my rectum. Is there a chance I have an infection this long after surgery?
Hi. Thanks for your query, albeit sort and specific. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Bleeding per rectum after 2 weeks of appendectomy is not known to occur due to any infection at the appendectomy site without any intra-abdominal complications/ signs or symptoms. Hence the cause looks to be a local: Hemorrhoids or piles. Polyp or Proctitis. I would advise you the following in such a situation: Consult your operating Surgeon asap. Get a ano-proctoscopy done to know the exact cause and get treated according to the findings. Since it is 2 weeks since appendectomy you must be on a normal diet. Take sitz bath in a tub with warm water. Follow the advised properly and get treatment till cured.
