What Causes Bleeding In The Throat After Tonsillectomy?
I had a tonsillectomy 12 days ago and on day 10 I was brought into hospital with bleeding. I stayed overnight and the bleeding had stopped, now 2 days later when I go for a wee or poo and wipe there s a lot of blood there but no blood in my poo, could this be from blood clots I swallowed when my throat was bleeding?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
If you are noticing fresh red blood while wiping, it is highly unlikely to be tonsillar bleed. Blood while passing through the stomach will get digested by stomach acids leading to brownish color. So, if you are noticing fresh red blood, lower gastrointestinal causes for bleeding should be ruled out. So, please be advised to follow up with your primary care provider.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
