What Causes Blood Discharge In The Urine?

Hello, A friend of mine is caregiver for a 93 year old male. I do not know all of his medical hx, excepting for a hx of prostate CA and he is on blood thinners. He is reported to be having bleeding from his penis. Should we take him to the ER? I have very limited knowledge about his medical history. I will get back to you if need be. My friend is going to call his physician. Thank you anyway. Good to know this service is available!

Urologist 's  Response
Hello
Thanks for query.
Father of your friend has Hematuria.

The bleeding from penis is likely to be due hemorrhagic cystitis secondary to blood thinners that he is taking .

If his vital parameters like blood pressure and respiration are normal there is no need to rush to Er..

You can withheld blood thinners and ask him to drink more water .It should stop within 24 hours .

You can consult his physician for evaluation and further test to be done .
