What Causes Blood In The Sputum?

My 4 ur old some is spitting up blood with clots. It's not just spit tinged pink it is all blood with small dime sized clots. His stomach was hurting last night and he had a fever and headache as well. Now he says his stomach is fine. What us goin on with him??

He may have had an ulcer in the lining of his lower oesophagus (the food-pipe) due to retching and vomiting. Clots indicates that the blood may have emanated from the stomach as well. You should urgently visit a pediatric gastroenterologist to evaluate the problem further, even if he is okay at present.
