What Causes Blood In Urine Post A TIPS Procedure?

I have been told to have TIPS procedure immediately after a visit to the emergency room. I have been ill for 4 months. Have quit having alcohol only in the last month. I have bleeding in my urine and from my rectum. Have I waited too long to have success in getting through this terrible ordeal? I did not go immediately for the procedure, but am scheduled for next week. Thank you.

you are probably suffering from portal hypertension from alcoholic liver cirrhosis. beyond a particular severity of portal hypertension, TIPS is generally suggested.
many abdominal organs drain into portal vein indirectly as well as abnormal collateral vessels open up as a result of portal hypertension.
these are prone for bleeding.
in addition, cirrhotics have a tendency for bleeding due to coagulation factor deficiency and problem with platelets quality.
hence, the bleeding.
