What Causes Blood In Urine?

My husband had a stroke 9-23-2016. Today he had blood in his urination. Looks like more after the end of urination. He is on Xarelto 15 mg, lamotrigine 400 mg , metformin 500 mg x2, atorvastatin 80 mg x1, carvedilol 1.56 mg x2, and 81 mg aspirin. his speech keeps in from saying whether or not he has pain when urinating
I am concerned because of the blood thinner

Hello,

The presence of blood in urine is indicating damages of the mucosa of the urinary pathways. It might be caused by:
- Blood thinners he is taking (Xarelto)
- Stones or sludge
- Infection
- Prostate enlargement
So, further abdominal ultrasound and urine culture and sensitivity testing together with urine analysis are further recommended to determine the right diagnosis.
