What Causes Blood In Vomit While On IV Fluids For Strep Throat?
my 20 year old daughter has been sick off & on with what drs here say is strep then it got to the point a week ago she was coughing up blood not much but some the dr said he throat was raw that is where the blood come from she was once again in bed for a week. She returned to work Monday & now this morning she started vomiting at 3 am she has diarehha a right side ache. She has now been hospitalized on iv fluids. She stated when she was vomiting that she did so with blood in that & her vomit smelt & tasted like raw fish. I am concerned our drs are missing something.
Hi. Sometimes the pressure the vomiting material exerts on the gastric mucosa especially on the cardioesophageal level may be the cause of mild till important bleeding from the mucosal tears they cause(Mallory-Weiss syndrome). I think that this should be doubted and not all be explained with the raw throat cough. So an upper digestive endoscopy must be performed firstly to see or exclude any mucosal damage. Diarrhea comes secondly, because she is recovered and on iv fluids.
