What Causes Bloody Stools When On Antibiotics For Chest Infection?
My 3 year old son is on antibiotics for a chest infection. He only began antibiotics yesterday after 4 days of intermittent fevers and vomiting. His fevers seem to have disappeared, however he now has bloody stools and just had a blood nose? Are these all connected or just a coincidence?
Hi...sometimes antibiotics can cause antibiotic associated diarrhea which can have some blood in stools. But nose bleeds do not seem to be related to the antibiotic treatment. It will get better with probiotic administration like Sachharomyces boulaardii. If the nose bleeds are occurring form both noses and without proper reason then I suggest you get the kid evaluated for the same. Regards - Dr. Sumanth
