What Causes Blue Discolouration In The Body While On Vimpat For Epilepsy?
my son was recently diagnosed with epilepsy. He has been taking 200 mg of vimpat twice a day since January 6th. He had two really bad seizures on Saturday. They lasted a little over 4 minutes and he turned purple the first time and the second time his lips turned blue and he urinated. When someone urinates is this a sign that there body is shutting down? This is still so new to us and we are question ourselves. We were on the verge of calling 911 and he started coming out of it. Should we have called being that he urinated?

You should know that uncontrolled urination is a common feature of epilepsy seizures. It is not a sign that his body is shutting down. But it is related to the release of the urethral sphincter during the seizure, as the patient is not conscientious. If the seizures persist, despite the anti-epileptic therapy, I recommend discussing with his doctor on the possibility of making some changes to his therapy, in order to have a better control of seizures. Hope you will find this answer helpful! Best regards, Dr. Aida
