What Causes Breast Pain And Brown Vaginal Discharge With IUD?

About 6 months ago I got an IUD and since have had no periods at all. Recently, I have been having bizarre symptoms, including breastfeeding pain and discharge from my breast, which led to tests finding out I have hypothyroidism. I was started on levothyroxine 2 weeks ago, at 50 mg and then increased to 100mg. Since starting at 100mg, I have been having dark brown vaginal discharge. I have been reading women usually get that after their periods but I haven t had a period for months. Is this a normal side effect of the medication? I m afraid the breast pain, discharge and vaginal brown discharge may be unrelated? Also, I took 2 home pregnancy tests and my doctors did a blood tests so I have ruled out that option.

Hi,

These are non-specific symptoms and are common with IUD. You can take mefenamic acid tablets for pain relief and generally the symptoms will resolve by itself in a couple of weeks. In case of persistent symptoms, you can consult a gynaecologist and get evaluated.
