What Causes Brown Patches On Lower Leg And Swelling In Ankles?

I have darkening (brown) patches on my foot and lower leg. Occasionally my ankles will swell. I had an ultrasound and there is no clot. I have some varicosities, and since the ultrasound prodded my upper leg deeply, it seems sore on occasion. I have some arthitis in the knee. My Dad died with his leg brownish purple all the way to his knees. Am I destined for the same (54 years old) What is my best prevention? 5 2 228 lbs

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be a sprain.
As of now you can use analgesics/anti-inflammatory combination like aceclofenac/serratiopeptidase for symptomatic relief.
You can also apply icepacks for faster recovery.
If lesion persists better to consult an orthopedic and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
