What Causes Brownish Discharge During Menstruation?

Okay so I finished my period about 3 days ago and I had the normal brown discharge that I always have but then it seemed to get worse instead of better. I also developed a sore throat yesterday which is agonisingly painful when I swallow. I ve recently had a huge alteration to my diet and I don t know whether that is causing the trouble or if there s something else wrong with me?

Hello,

You have done a huge alteration in your diet recently, it can be the reason. You should always change your diet slowly so that your body gets appropriate time to adjust with the metabolic changes. Do not rush like that, relax. Brownish discharge is commonly due to old clotted blood that is flushed out at times as a cleaning process naturally. No worries. Take home made nutritious diet rich in iron, magnesium, calcium, protein, fruits and veggies.

Stay well hydrated, do regular exercises. Take adequate rest. For sore throat, give rest to your throat, talk less. Gargle with warm saline water 2-3 times a day. Take antihistamines at bed time to ease symptoms. Get sputum / swab test done to detect strep throat, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, etc. If test is positive you may need an oral course of antibiotics.
