What Causes Bruised And Painful Back When Diagnosed With Arthritis In Cervical Spine?

I have arthritis in my cervical spine. In the past week, I have one area in particular that is very painful, it feels bruised to the touch but I did not injure it in any way that would actually cause a bruise. When I sit with my head resting against the back of a chair, sofa, etc., when I get up, my neck is so painful I can hardly move it. Is this just swelling from the arthritis or something more specific?

Hello,

Neck pain is the primary symptom of rheumatoid arthritis in the neck. You may feel a dull or throbbing ache in the back of your neck around the base of the skull. Joint swelling and stiffness can make it hard to move from side to side. I suggest using anti inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen to relieve the pain. I also suggest using cold compresses for local application.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
