What Causes Bruised Painful Knee?

hi i've just started playing soccer after a few years out, after practise recently my left knee started to feel very bruised and its been hard to stand on that leg, especially after having my knee bent for a certain amount of time. There's no bruising, just a similar pain. After a few days rest it felt fine so i played again, and now its back to the same but its taking longer to heal. The pain is just after where my quadriceps ends and a little on the side of the knee. Any idea what this could be, thanks.

hi,
from your history you seem to be suffering from quadriceps tendinitis(inflammation).quadriceps is one of the major muscles used along with hamstrings for soccer.
as you have mentioned you started playing soccer after a while probably your quadriceps is not strong enough to take the load.
take following treatment.
1. give rest to the affected part.avoid playing till your pain subsides or your injury might be aggravated.
2. apply ice packs 5-6 times for 10 min.
3. if pain is unbearable - take anti inflammatory medicine like diclofenac
4. after your pain subsides you need to concentrate on QUADRICEPS & HAMSTRING STRENGTHENING EXERCISES. you have to build your muscles slowly and steadily.
5. never forget to do proper warm up before playing which i am sure you must be doing.
6. i hope you have not injured your knee while playing or else we should keep the possibility of meniscal (cushion in your knee) injury in mind.
you can revert back for any query
regards
