What Causes Bump On The Head?

Hi- my 2 yr old has a bump about the size of a dime behind her ear. It has been there about a week. She doesn t recall getting hit in the head or anything, but she is very accident prone. Should I worry? How long do bumps to the head typically take to heal?

Hi,

If it is similar on both sides, this might be the normal mastoid prominence. Bumps from accidents usually have some overlying bruises, and resolves in 1-2 weeks depending on severity. If there is no pain or tenderness, we need not worry. Just keep an eye on its size.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
