What Causes Burning Sensation During Urination?

Hello...my 8 year old son has complained about burning during urination....it is only occasionally. He also says when this happens that the ti of it feels cold....he's afraid to go again and he says the feeling (burning) lasts awhile afterwards. I automatically think bladder infection but this has happened before and it doesn't last.

Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Your son's problem can be urinary infection or urethritis. A routine urine analysis should be done to rule out infection. It can also be due to lack of adequate water intake. Check whether he takes enough water. You can give barley water or cranberry juice to alkalize his urine and relieve from burning sensation. If infection is there in urine examination then should be treated with antibiotics. For children my usual empirical antibiotic will be cefixime or cotrimaxazole. Hope this may help you.
Let me know if you have any further queries.
