If I am walking quickly ( to make at least a 15 min mile), my ankles sometimes have a burning sensation. I m thinking it is the tendons or muscles, not bone. When I run 2 mi daily, I don t have that sensation. What is my body telling me? Oh, I m 51, 118 lbs, and about 5 4 .

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms are suggestive of local muscle acidosis. This could be related to anaerobic activity in the muscle due to straining physical activity during walking quickly. It is just a matter of muscle metabolism. Anyway, I recommend performing a Doppler ultrasound of the leg vessels, in order to exclude possible arteriophathy.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
