What Causes Chest Discomfort While On Statins For Elevated Cholesterol Levels?
I started taking a statin a few days ago for elevated cholesterol. I have been feeling a little weird this afternoon. My blood pressure went to 169/67 at around 3pm and it s now at 156/81 at 5pm. My pulse is normal. I have been working so it s possible it s due to that. But, should I be concerned. My chest feels a little funny and I had very loose stools this afternoon for a little bit. I am 60 years old. Just had a physical and blood tests. All were good.
hello there. reading up your history and from my experience,i would say you are doing alright.statins tend to cause muscle aches prominently of biceps, thighs and calves and rarely of that of chest wall muscles. In all probability ,you are experiencing such symptoms
Statins aside from the cholestrol lowering effects ,has antiinflammatory and antioxidant property,so they are actually beneficial for the cardiac health of a person your age.Severe muscle pain, though rarely as mentioned above seems to be the major deterrent for people to stop taking them at times.
i would suggest you to add 100 mg of coenzyme q10 and L-Carnitine 1g twice daily along with statins. and also please take pantoprazole tablet twice daily for three days as the symptom of chest discomfort could also be gas trouble as your physical and blood tests are normal.
hope it helps your query.followup if you have anymore doubts.good day
