What Causes Chest Pain And Bump On Head After An Injury?
hi doctor i took a bad dive into the pool the other day and now my chest really hurts. i banged my head at the bottom and as i came up i noticed it was very hard to breath and i had a huge bump on my head. im afraid that it could be serious and if it is thats a really huge bummer because im a cross country runner.
I carefully passed through your question and would explain that your symptoms could be related to a head concussion.
The bump on your head is not really concerning, as it is related to the inflammation of the soft tissues surrounding the scalp.
I would recommend having some rest and avoid physical activity and especially a second head trauma during the next week.
Ibuprofen or acetaminophen can be helpful for the pain.
If your headache does not improve or even worsens in the next days, I would recommend going to the ER for CT scan to exclude possible delayed intracranial bleeding.
Regarding your chest pain, a chest X ray study to exclude possible broken ribs and a cervico-thoracic spine X ray study are needed to exclude possible fractures.
Hope to have been helpful!
Kind regards,
Dr. Aida
