Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 40 years old, in good shape, eat pretty clean. Last week I had to go to the ER with chest pains. All of the test they did including an EKG, x-ray, blood work turned out good. I went home felt fine for a couple of days, then started to feel really weak and tired, like I was going to faint. I scheduled an appointment with a cardiologist to hopefully find out what is going on. How common is it for someone my age, who works out regularly, no smoking or drugs to have a clogged artery?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.
it is very uncommon for a healthy 40 year old male that does not smoke and has active lifestyle and eats healthy to develop arterial disease, still chances are not zero.
it would be a totally different situation if you have family history of heart problems in early age and if you have hypercholesterolemia in your family as these increase the risk of clogged arteries and related heart problems. If all your tests came out normal, the ECG and blood tests then very likely the chest symptoms and the fatigue you are having are not due to the heart. Anxiety is a common cause of your symptoms but the doctor has to do a thorough physical examination and thorough blood check up to rule out other conditions before anxiety is considered as the likely cause.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards, Antoneta Zotaj, MD
