What Causes Child To Lose Ability To Move Legs?

2 1/2 year old boy has lost the ability to move his legs, can not stand up/support any weight etc. He has not had any significant falls etc in recent days. He had to wear a brace for 6 months when born as he had problems with his hips (not sure if this is relevant).
