What Causes Choking In A Child After Swallowing Liquids?

Hello... My daughter is 15 months old, and absolutely REFUSES to drink any liquids at all.. She stopped taking the bottle at about 10 months old, but will not take to any sippy cup at all, nor cups of liquid. She eats baby food and oatmeal with banana pretty well, but will not drink, not even an ounce of liquid at all. I am getting concerned. Our pediatrician told us as long as her diapers are wet, not to worry, but she is not getting any calcium from milk or such liquids. I was wondering if her adenoids would have any relation on her not wanting to swallow liquids? She will take a little sip of my drink once in a while from my cup, but then coughs/chokes on it, and never gets any liquid down. I think there is something wrong...Please help!

Hi...not able to drink liquids is not to be left without proper evaluation. Especially the complaint you are mentioning is quite significant - She will take a little sip of my drink once in a while from my cup, but then coughs/chokes on it.

There is a condition called - Palato pharyngeal incompetence.

This requires evaluation.
