What Causes Chronic Bloody Stools?

My 16 yr old daughter has had blood in her stool the past two weeks. She had a similar problem to a lesser degree about two yrs ago and was on miralax. I started having her take ducolax thinking that is was the straining problem that she previously had however the toilet bowl is still full of blood with no straining. I must add my brother was 33 and my cater was was 65 when they were both diagnosed with colon cancer.
