Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Chronic Excessive Phlegm And Coughing Despite Treatments For Acid Reflux And Allergies?
I am 82 years old and have had dentures since I was 26. For the last four years, I have had chronic and increasing and very excessive phlegm, coughing and choking, especially in the mornings. I have been to multiple doctors and have been treated for acid reflux, allergies, etc., but nothing helps me.
Excessive sputum production needs to be evaluated strictly. It might be because of some infection either due to bacteria, virus or fungi which needs to be treated first.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Grace, General & Family Physician
