Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Chronic Muscle Spasm And Pain In Upper Back And Shoulders?
I have had chronic muscle spasm, tightness, and pain for years in my upper back, shoulders and neck. I have gone to chiropractors and massage practitioners, which helps but never takes it away. Tingling, crawling skin feeling and fatigue. I don t want to go to a dozen doctors before I can get help. Please let me know if I should see a neurologist or rheumatologist. When I say years, I mean years...it has gotten worse.
I have studied your case and I think that you might be having Disc prolapse in spine.I would suggest you to get MRI of the spine so that we can confirm if disc herniation is present and if yes, than we can start treatment accordingly. I have following suggestions for you. 1. Back muscle strengthening exercises. 2. Tablet Pregabalin and Methylcobal daily. 3. Avoid weight lifting, forward bending and jerky activities. 4. Hot water fomentation to the back. 5. Voletran ointment I hope these methods will help you in pain relief. Let me know if there is any other follow up questions. thanks.
