What Causes Clicking Hip To A 12 Year Old?

Hello my 12 year old daughter has been complaining of a clicking hip in the last 2 weeks. She does not appear to be in pain but has never complained of this before. She was born preterm at 33 weeks but the hip check was normal. She plays rugby at as a mandatory sport at P.E. in school and walks to school which is new due to us moving house nearer to the school. Is this something I should be concerned about?

hi thanks for your question.

the twoain causes of a clicking hip are a psoas click, a big tendon in the groin and an IT band click, on the outside of the leg.

neither of these causes of hip clicks are serious or need treatment unless they are accompanied by pain.

if your daughter does have pain or a limp the. I would encourage her to see your dr and have a hip X-ray.

best wishes
