What Causes Color Change And Tenderness In The Scar Tissue?

back in 2005 i crashed on a mountain bike and scraped up my elbows pretty bad. they scarred up as expected and havent been a problem since. now all of a sudden out of the blue, almost 7 years later, they have started to change from that light pink scar color to a darker red and have become inflamed and tender. I just found it odd that both elbows have become this way and was wondering if it is just a basic infection or something i should be more worried about. i just got over hand foot and mouth disease that my children so kindly shared with me about 2 weeks ago if that is any significance to your diagnosis. thank you for taking a look

Cosmetic & Plastic Surgeon 's  Response
hi mark...thanks for sharing your problem here..
whenever the wound is healed by secondary intention it produce a scar..and if the scar is present on the mobile part of the body like joints etc they get hurt most of the time..so they wounded again and again..they called as unstable scar(healed and wounded again)..in such type of scar there is chance of skin cancer to arise.if its like this then you need to excise that scar..if i get the picture i can tell you in more detail.its better to have visit to the plastic surgeon to extract the exact diagnosis and suggest you treatment..thanks
