What Causes Concussion And Severe Dryness In The Mouth And Eyes?

My son sustained a concussion about 1 year ago. After the concussion he started having severe dry mouth and eyes. They continue to get worse. He was tested for Sjogrens using a lip biopsy at a specialist group in Philadelphia. He does not have it. He has also tried over the counter medication w/no help and has gone to several other doctors.

Hello!

Welcome on Healthcaremagic!

His symptoms could be related to an autonomic nervous system dysfunction in this region, which is responsible for the loss of fluids in this area, probably caused by the head trauma (traumatic brain injury).
Unfortunately there is not a specific drug for this condition, only symptomatic treatment.
For this reason, I would recommend symptomatic treatment with artificial tears and Evocax for dry mouth.
Some tips to improve his situation would be:
-Take sips of water for dry mouth.
-Use sugar-free candies and gums.
-Use artificial tears for dry eyes.
-Use a humidifier for dry indoor air.
-Keep teeth clean and see a dentist regularly.
-Avoid smoking.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!
Kind regards, Dr. Aida
