General & Family Physician 's  Response
hi
I read through your querry and understand your concern, considering her age 84yrs:

-it is good to initially check with the basic parameters such as
-B.P,
-blood sugar
-renal function tests: urea & creatinine

If I were her treating physician apart from doing the above basic tests I would consider:

- An auditory problem which is a very important cause for dizziness and fall in elderly patients. It is mainly due to the degenerative changes in the nerve that is goin to the ear which is also responsible for balance and position sense apart from hearing.

-this is a more common disorder responsible for giddiness among elderly that is generally overlooked.

-this can be diagnosed by an audiometry test
and effective treatment is present.

- secondly dyspepsia can also be associated.

-cervical spondylosis, this is also a condition in the elderly that is responsible for causing giddiness and vomiting.
-In this condition due to erosions and changes in the cervical spine there is decreased blood flow to the brain causing giddiness.

this can be diagnosed by an x-ray.

wish her a speedy recovery..!!
