What Causes Constant Drop In HCG Levels During Early Pregnancy?

Hi Docs, I m 8weeks pregnant and my hcg is only about 60,000. Has been trending upward but not as aggressively as earlier. It is taking longer days before the value doubles. What I m concerned about it my HCG levels started dropping drastically, though I am taking 100mg of progesterone IM and crinone 8% vaginal progesterone. It dropped like a rock from week to week and i don t know what is happening. The trend: 227, 207, 177, 59. The estrogen level had been too high at 400 and I backed away from a few doses to bring the levels down while monitoring my Progesterone. I am now noticing today my breast tenderness is not as pronounced but I am feeling somewhat queezy with overall sick to my stomach and mild nausea but still tolerating small POs and pushing the fluids. Can you advise if my loss of breast tenderness has any correlation with my progesterone drop and estrogen being so aggressively dominant. My estrogen has since come down to 200s and I am pending progesterone level today. I also noticed the drop in progesterone began when I started heating up the oil to decrease the pain of injections but I may be overheating and breaking the molecular bonds of the drug rendering it ineffective. I have stopped heating it and just returned to the direct admin and just applying heat to the muscle after the shots. Can you offer your thoughts or insights. I have previous hx of m/c and I am terrified. Appointment pending next week. HELP!!! PLEASE!!!!

Hi,

Your symptoms suggest some d velopmental problem with the fetus.Progesterone injection supports pregnancy by proiding the hormon when it is deficient. But drop in HCG suggests lack of fetal development.

I am afraid if it is blighted ovum..where there is just a chemical pregnancy but fetal development fails.

Over heating of progesterone injection may not be the causative factor..please be cool.

In such condition I would advise you to meet your treating gynecologist/ER &get earliest help. The pregnancy status can be co related with sonographic findings &then doctor's would take decision for your well being.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
