What Causes Constant Hiccups After Cardiac Cathetarization?

My husband had a cardiac cathetarization yesterday and immediately had a case of hiccups and more than 24 hours later he is still experiencing hiccups. We asked the Dr about them and they said it is not a result of the procedure... what are your thoughts?
