What Causes Constipation And Abdominal Distension?

I am a 36 year old woman. I weigh 290 lbs. I have low blood pressure. The problem I am having is a constipated feeling, though I can go. My stomach is distended and my left foot is swollen so big, I could not get it in my shoe today. I have been checked for diabetes in the last year, and was clear. I have been diagnosed to have IBS.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
290 lbs in a 36 year old woman is indicative of obesity a cause and effect of many of the problems hence loosing the weight is the first step to correct many a problems one gets along with obesity.
IBS can not cause edema of the left foot, hence a cause needs to be found out.
Stomach distension can be due to intestinal obstruction, that too can cause the edema in the left foot hence it is necessary to follow the guidelines:
Get an opinion of a General Surgeon for clinical evaluation, examination and investigations of the stool, blood and urine.
X-ray of the abdomen in standing position and CT scan of the whole abdomen including the pelvis is very important to get a proper diagnosis and management.
Consult an Orthopedic Surgeon if the cause of left foot swelling is a local one to get examined and investigated to get a proper diagnosis and management.
Consult a Obesity controlling team to get a proper guideline for reducing the weight.
