What Causes Constipation And Respiratory Infection?

I thought my cockatiel had a respiratory infection. I bought some antibiotics on the internet, but he isn t getting better. He is breathing heavily. I don t know if he is going to make it. We live in rural norheast Iowa and don t have avian vets up here. I picked him up and the area leading to his anus is enlarged and he had a lot of packed on poop that I soaked and removed. Could he be severely constipated? No poop in the cage except for what is caked onto his behind.

Hello,

How old is he since when he is suffering from this condition?? old age sedentary lifestyle, low fiber diet may can cause this symptoms.

Upper respiratory tract infection may be due to bacteria or viral infection or pneumonia.

Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is.

Get it done chest x-ray, ultrasound abdomen.

Use lactulose or liquid paraffin syrup for free passing of stools.

If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
