What Causes Constipation While On Estradiol And Prednisone?

I have done IVF and was taking estradiol, prednisone, progesterone in oil, as well as doxycycline and medrol. I experienced SEVERE constipation and bloating for about a month, followed by blood and mucus in my stool for 5-7 days. I then began experiencing pain during bowel movements, when lifting, sneezing, and blowing my nose. I now have 2 hernias. My question is can the medication listed above along with severe constipation and straining cause the hernias?

Hi,

None of the medication you listed above can cause constipation as a side-effect. There are other pathological reasons for it or sometimes it's functional constipation.

Besides constipation is not the reason for the development of a hernia. It is simply protrusion of the small bowel through weakened fascia of the abdominal wall.

So consult a surgeon for a hernia and till then you can take bisacodyl tablet or liquid Paraffin at night for 1-2 days to relieve constipation.
